sorry it’s been ubber long since my last post, but hopefully i can get back on track with my life and this blog!

our senior project requires us to develop a line for a target market group outside the “twenty-something” female consumer for either an existing company or for an imaginary company we create. my group has chosen to develop a “resort wear” line for betsey johnson, one of my idol designers.
within the gallery you can see my group’s mood board, fabric board, and our flat sketches outlining our resort line.
the ideas for inspiration, color, fabric, and silhouettes are based on research for 2013 spring trends and group discussions. i designed and created the mood board and fabric board, and organized the lay out of the flat sketches.
**flat sketches were drawn for uniformity by another group member**

i’m beginning to redesign the linen pants that i want to turn into a one piece jumper with a fitted bodice on top, the denim jacket that needed major improvements, and then some redesigning of older t-shirts and other garments. i know this is a short post, but stay tuned because i’m going to be posting more of my school projects and personal challenges soon. ttfn!

p.s. i realized i had not posted a food story so i’ll try and throw one in soon. i totally forget to take pictures of the ingredients, cooking process, and finished meal until i’m halfway through eating.

cutesy light switch plates

want to add a little pop to your living space? a decorated light switch plate is a small detail that makes a huge difference. in this post i will go through the steps of applying a decorative paper to the light switch plate, which is just one of a few ways to give your light switch plates flare.

step 1
make sure the light switch plates you are going to decorate are clean.
pick out a cute paper to cover your switch plate with; it could be wrapping paper or a thin scrapbook paper. thicker papers like cardstock or construction paper won’t conform to the plate well. cut paper big enough that the edges of the paper can wrap around the sides of the switch plate to the back.

step 2
glue the paper to the switch plate, leaving enough allowance on each side to wrap around the edge. fold the edges of the paper around the sides of the switch plate so that it forms more to the shape then apply glue to the sides of the plate and hold the edge of the paper down. if your paper is stiff, apply glue to the top of the paper near the edges and with your fingers, work the glue into the paper and over the edge and to the back of the switch plate. this will help mold the paper to the plate.

for a glossy and smooth finish, lightly dab glue on the top of the paper; wet your fingers and work the glue into the paper and cover the whole plate surface.

wait for glue to dry before proceeding.

step 3
once the paper is dry, use an exacto knife or scissors to cut out the space for the light switch to fit. also make an “x marks the spot” over where the screws for the plate will go.

and you’re done!

if you don’t want to deal with glue, you can always paint your switch plates.

i will advise that if you paint the switch plate you will want to apply some form of finish to prevent chipping of your awesome paint job (:

for my brother

so my brother started college this semester at my rival school, university of alabama, and i wanted to give him something personal to take with him and have in his dorm. i combined themes from his college team with themes from his favorite nfl team in a painting that matches his room colors. i know he likes it so i hope you do too!

o and my cat, todd, turned one today!

isn't he so cute!

i’ve been ubber busy with school and illness, but i do have time for a quick post with some photos of my first apparel design assignment. in previous years, the first assignment of this particular class was to create a purse; however this year we are trying something new. we are creating custom-made t-shirts to give us experience working with knits and hand sewing techniques. the stitches shown are a straight stay-stitch on the reverse applique and a parallel whip stitch on the regular applique.
